This simple, task-oriented patient education tool can be easily added to your group or individual counseling curriculum. The workbook is divided into ten “Tasks” focused on helping co-occurring disorders clients understand their condition, self-diagnose, learn the basics of stable recovery, become aware of relapse and triggers, and make a concrete plan for living their recovery. (You can download the “Relapse Traps Inventory” the workbook recommends here, too!)
There are concrete outcomes for each task-based unit, leading a client through the process and documenting their progress at the same time. This tool can be used in both inpatient and outpatient treatment settings. It can also be used by individual practitioners working with private clients.
The workbook is based on recognized disease-model treatment principles and can integrate readily in Matrix and other established EBP treatment protocols.

Hi, Amy-
We don’t have a “mailing list” but you can subscribe to site posts using the “Subscribe by email” box on the site Home Page.
Hi Scott,
I’m trying to download the workbook but keep getting an error message when I click the image above. I’m interested in the daily planner on page 10 (It was recommended to me by a counselor). Is there anyway I can order a hard copy of the book? I didn’t see it in the resources or library and didn’t find it on Amazon.
Thank you! Jen
Oops. Cecile fixed the broken link and sent you a copy of workbook. Thanks for letting us know.
Best
Scott
My son is battling for 15 years now actually I have 2 struggling one is in active addiction right now. Do u know if a treatment center that addresses dual diagnosis. I know he has mental issues. We cannot seem to find a good treatment center. We have been ti 15 all over US
Well, as a matter of policy we do not recommend particular treatment programs, but we do have a longer article on the subject that you can download. Here’s a link: https://treatmentandrecoverysystems.com/finding-the-best-addiction-treatment-for-your-needs/
I can tell you there are a number of resources for patients with substance and mental health problems. Try searching “co-occurring disorders treatment resources” and see what you get. A number will be ads but further on you should find informational websites that are more helpful.
One bit of advice: look for a program which not only addresses co-occurring disorders but permits extended length of stay if it becomes necessary. That’s often a need in cases where there are mental health issues. Sometimes outpatient is the best choice, depending on the case.
